Kyle’s official first day at his new position in Houston is set for the 19th of January.  We have scheduled the moving company to come and pack up our house in Midland on the 19th of December.  Yes, we realize that we do not yet have a house in Houston to move all of our belongings into.  However, we decided to put our things into storage for a few weeks.  This way, we can just drive to Indiana for the holidays and only drive back to Houston after the holidays.  It will save us about 5 hours or so in the car on the way back, but it is better than coming back to Midland and then turning around to go to Houston.  Kyle will probably have to come back to Midland for a few days in January to help transition the geologist who is taking over his job, but that is not too bad.  Now, if everything goes smoothly with our house hunt next week, we hope that we will be able to close on the new house quickly - hopefully by the first week of January - so that we can have some time to get settled before Kyle has to start up his new position in downtown Houston.  Of course, in the meantime, we hope that we can sell our house in Midland too.

Things are finally moving for us.  Our house is officially on the market and ready for any offers.  (hint hint - anyone moving to Midland, Texas?)  Unfortunately, it is the holiday season and not really house shopping season.  We hope that we will still get a few bites and maybe even an offer on the house before Christmas.  We hope.

We leave on Monday (8th of December) to go to Houston for a week to do our house shopping.  We have decided to look a little more in the downtown area.  It would be great if we found a perfect house for us near Kyle’s office so that he doesn’t have a long commute every day.  BUT, we know that may not happen.  In that case, we are heading out to the suburb of Humble, Texas.  It is about northeast-ish of downtown Houston.  We really like the neighborhoods up in that area, and there is a park-and-ride to downtown in that area.  (We park the car in a lot and then ride a bus to downtown.)  So, we would have a 5 - 10 minute drive to the park-and-ride lot and then about another 30 minutes on the bus.  Not a short commute like Midland, but at least we wouldn’t have to drive it all the way!  I’m just stressed about finding our new house in a week.  It will be a very very busy week for us.
